Above Board - All Hands on Deck is pleased to announce its 2019 fundraiser, the Above Board Masquerade Ball

Above Board committee members invite the community to don a mask and attend their second annual event on the 22nd of August at the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport. The proceeds of this very special evening will fund a Certified Provider Program to assist with post-crisis addiction care as well as Ride Along Service for local First Responders. This dual- approach initiative will be provided in partnership with Sweetser Maine and Kennebunk Police Chief Robert MacKenzie. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to provide 500 hours of assistance with a certified Sweetser advocate.

About Above Board

Above Board is a volunteer committee of proactive community members looking to support initiatives that directly affect the greater York County community. In its inaugural event, the Above Board Gala at On the Marsh Bistro, over $50,000 was raised to establish the Recovery Coach Training Academy of the Kennebunks. To date 40 certified Recovery Coaches and 60 First Responders have graduated from the Academy and are positively addressing addiction in our community.

While our 501c3 application is still in process, the Kennebunk Rotary Club has kindly agreed to allow us to operate under the umbrella of their charitable fund.

For immediate release:

Above Board—All Hands on Deck would like to thank our incredibly supportive southern Maine community for helping to make our inaugural fundraising event a resounding success.

On Thursday, August 23rd, 2018 we hosted a sold-out tented event on the lawn of On the Marsh Bistro over- looking the salt marsh. Our goal was to raise $25,000 to establish a Recovery Coach Training Academy in the Kennebunks to help combat opioid addiction in our community. Thanks to corporate and personal spon- sorships, ticket sales, and robust support during that evening’s live ask, we more than doubled our goal and raised $54,230. Because of your generosity, we will now be able to not only graduate over 85 coaches in our immediate community, but we will also be able to offer a condensed version of the same curriculum to all our first responders in the greater Kennebunk region, a first in the nation.

Based on the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery Model (CCAR) and working closely with Kennebunk Police Chief Robert MacKenzie and the team at Enso Recovery, we are pleased to announce that the Recovery Coach Training Academy of the Kennebunks will offer its first training course from January 28th —February 1st, 2019 with full scholarships going to all qualified residents of southern Maine. We are thrilled to have Lori Drescher, a nationally recognized Certified Addiction and Family Recovery Coach Trainer and founder of the Recovery Coach University, fly in from New York to lead our first academy ses- sion. Drescher’s commitment to the Recovery Coach model can be seen through her mission to “eradicate the stigma and shame of addiction in families, to empower families to achieve their own recovery, and to advo- cate for vitally needed community recovery supports.” (
